Blog Tour: Rebounding by Shanna Clayton

ReboundingBlitzBanner

Goodbye.

Charlotte Hart will do anything to escape the life she once adored, even if that means moving in with a mysterious guy from her past.

Hello.

When the girl who saved Max Archer’s life shows up on his doorstep, he knows he can’t turn her away.
Neither of them can let go of their pasts. Both of them are living a lie. If they can’t figure out how to rebound, they’re destined to crash and burn.

us I want to thank XPresso Book Tours for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I needed to read a few chapters in order to be involved into the story, maybe because of the temporal gap between the first and the second chapter. In the first one, a girl named Charlotte, who is on holiday in Miami, saves a guy (Max) from an aggression. The day after they part with Char saying to Max that he does not have to repay her for saving his life and that there will be a chance in the future to pay off the debt.

Charlotte is the typical american girl you can find in tv series and books. She is one of those girls who is not just beautiful, but also intelligent, admired by everybody and with a social life that many can just dream of. Obviously, she also has a gorgeous boyfriend, Miles. They have been together for ages and they were bonded by a deep friendship since childhood.

The second chapter is set two years after the incident told in the first chapter, precisely when Miles breaks up with Charlotte. This is where the real story begins: she decides to leave everything and run away without telling anyone. Her idea is to finish the last college’s semester attending the courses online and find a job to start a life. But she needs a concrete support and that is when we meet Max again.
Max is a extravagant character, tormented and solitary. As we keep going with the story, we discover more things about his life. The way the events concerning his life are presented to us is very effective and makes us realize how he feels, his emotions and the confusion that relationships cause to him. That is why he is still trapped in his past: he is looking for revenge instead of living the present.

“You make me want a life that’s easy and light and carefree. I thought if I had those things, I’d give up on my past; it’d be like saying what happened was okay, and I’d stop trying to get justice.”
“You deserved those things, Max. I realize that Garcia took the life you were supposed to have, but you’re letting him steal this one too. He doesn’t deserve to have that much power over you.”

Even if the attraction between the two is obvious from the very beginning, it is also clear that it will be hard to build any kind of relationship. Max is not able to listen to his heart because of his past wounds and his behaviour definitely does not help Char to understand what to do or say. The ending of the story is pretty predictable, but I really appreciated how the author has developped the story, analyzing the points of view of both Charlotte and Max. She also does not forget to insert secondary characters with a original personality and importance.

“He presses against me, and I feel like there’s more of a chance of drowning in him than in the ocean.”

The only critique that I can do is that the final is too hurried, and too easy. But it is also the typical cliché of romantic novels so we cannot pretend something more sophisticated.

Last but not least, I really liked the way this book was written. I picked it as one of the english books I planned to read this year and that is how it went. I will be honest, I did not have many problems to read it in language and this fact probaly makes me appreciate it even more.
Moreover, the story is narrated alternatively from the point of view of Charlotte and Max and I really liked this structure.

All things considered, I think the book is enjoyable because of the way it’s written and because you can relate to the characters. My advice? Read it!

“He presses against me, and I feel like there’s more of a chance of drowning in him than in the ocean.”

Buona giornata a tutti!
teaser tuesday

Out of everyone in our family, Lucas was the only one who claimed Miles wasn’t the right guy. He said we were too alike. I never understood that. How could being too alike be a bad thing? We’d always have similar interests, things to talk about, the same hobbies, and so on. But in the end, Lucas was right. Apparently being too alike equated to boredom.
Lucas takes my hand, holding it in his. “I just want the best for you, Char. You know that right?”
I nod. “Of course.”
“And I’m all for rebounds, but you can’t live with your rebound. That’s not how it works.”
I stare at him pointedly. “For the last time, Max and I are just friends. It’s not like that between us.”
“Yet,” Lucas adds, annoyingly.
“Talk to Max if you don’t believe me. Even if I wanted more, he would never be interested.”
“Aha, but you do want more?” he asks—like he’s caught me.

Chapter 15 – REBOUNDING di Shanna Clayton

reboundingCharlotte Hart used to have the perfect life.

Or…what she thought was perfect.

President of her sorority. Legions of friends. A promising career in journalism. It’s exactly what she wanted, exactly what she’d always planned. But after her slimy bastard of a boyfriend cheats on her with her archenemy, everything she built comes crumbling down.

She needs out. Now.

But leaving everything behind means she has to live with Max, a mysterious guy from the past. Living with him isn’t the wisest decision she’s ever made—Max isn’t friendly, he keeps a lot of secrets, and sneaks out in the middle of the night. There’s definitely something shady about him, but at least he seems to understand what she needs. In fact, he seems to know it better than she does.

When Charlotte shows up on Max Archer’s doorstep, he knows he can’t turn her away. He wishes he could—she’s broken, lost, comes with too much baggage, but he owes her his life. Whatever she wants, he’ll find a way to make it happen. Problem is, Max doesn’t count on Charlotte wanting more than he’s willing to give.

He doesn’t count on her wanting his heart.

Cover Reveal: Rebounding by Shanna Clayton

Ciao a tutti!

Hello everyone! Today I’m happy to host the Cover Reveal of a book whose cover attracted me immediately despite its semplicity. Also the short synopsis intrigued me and I think I will read soon this book: I have to read at least five books in English this year and this will be one of those. The book will be released in June 2015.
