Teaser Tuesday #8

Buongiorno a tutti! Chi di voi ha letto i libri di Clara Sánchez? Io ho letto i primi tre e mi sono piaciuti davvero molto. Era un po’ che meditavo di leggere l’ultimo uscito, ‘Le cose che sai di me’, e finalmente l’ho preso in mano. Questo non è da meno rispetto agli altri e ve li consiglio tutti caldamente.

Sarebbe stato bello accendere il camino, ma sarebbe sembrato troppo stereotipato e non mi venne neppure in mente di suggerirlo. Elías mi aveva aperto gli occhi sul regalare fiori e gioielli, creare atmosfere romantiche e sciocchezze del genere, che servivano solo a nascondere una profonda mancanza di immaginazione per amare e poter essere amati. Perché quando qualcuno ti piace, l’unica cosa che vuoi è quella persona allo stato puro.
«Non preoccuparti», lo rassicurai. «Vedrai che salterà fuori qualcosa di interessante.»
Durante la cena gli raccontai meglio i contrattempi del viaggio, e che ero viva per miracolo. Lui mi ascoltava masticando e di tanto in tanto bevendo dal calice, che prendeva con la mano aperta come se fosse un fiore che stava per perdere i petali.
Quando finimmo aprii la valigia e gli diedi delle stoffe dipinte a mano molto antiche che Karim, il nostro ospite in India, mi aveva procurato per lui. Lo entusiasmarono. Per la prima volta quella sera gli si illuminò lo sguardo. Non smetteva di guardarle come mi sarebbe piaciuto che guardasse me. Disse che quelle stoffe gli avrebbero dato molte idee e che forse il suo stile avrebbe preso una nuova direzione.

Capitolo 2 – LE COSE CHE SAI DI ME di Clara Sánchez

le cose che sai di meIl piccolo pezzo di cielo che si intravede dal finestrino è di un azzurro intenso. Patricia è sull’aereo che la sta riportando a casa, a Madrid. All’improvviso la sconosciuta che le è seduta accanto le dice una cosa che la sconvolge: «Qualcuno vuole la tua morte». Patricia è colpita da quella rivelazione, ma poi ripensa alla sua vita e si tranquillizza: a ventisei anni è realizzata, felicemente sposata e con un lavoro che la porta a girare il mondo. Niente può turbare la sua serenità. È sicura che quella donna, che dice di riconoscere le vibrazioni emanate dalle persone, si sbaglia.
Eppure a Patricia, tornata alla routine di sempre, iniziano a succedere banali imprevisti che giorno dopo giorno si trasformano in piccoli incidenti. Incidenti che stravolgono le sue abitudini e il suo lavoro.
Non può fare a meno di ripensare alla donna dell’aereo e alle sue parole. Parole che a poco a poco minano le sue certezze. Vuole sapere se è davvero in pericolo. Vuole scoprire chi desidera farle del male, e quando il sospetto cresce dentro di lei, inizia a guardarsi intorno con occhi diversi, dubitando delle persone che ha vicino. Sente che tutto il suo mondo sta crollando pezzo dopo pezzo, ma deve trovare il coraggio di resistere: la minaccia è più vicina di quanto immaginasse. Però deve essere pronta a mettere in discussione tutta la sua vita, a leggere dentro sé stessa. Perché anche la felicità ha le sue ombre. Anche un cielo senza nuvole può dar vita in un attimo a una terribile tempesta.

Me ne sono ricordata stamattina di dover scrivere il Teaser di oggi e sono corsa a tirare fuori un pagina a caso dal libro che ho finito questo weekend. È il sesto libro di una serie che mi sta coinvolgendo davvero tantissimo, Cut & Run. Se non vi dispiace il genere, andate a dare un’occhiata.

Zane found himself alone with Mara. She sat across from him and narrowed her eyes before talking. “Now I know Ty ain’t exactly diligent about it, so I’m telling you. You need to know I expect certain things from my boys.”
Zane raised an eyebrow. He wasn’t certain he could stand another lecture from a disapproving mother. “Okay.”
“We do Christmas, Thanksgiving, and sunrise service at Easter. If you have to go to Texas for some of those, that’s just fine, but I expect a phone call. Chester’s birthday is in April, and do not bring him anything that fires projectiles or is sharp. Or, God forbid, sharp projectiles. Understand? Because Ty does it every year.”
Zane blinked. He wasn’t quite sure where this was going, or why she was telling him instead of scolding Ty about it. “Yes, ma’am.”
“Okay then.” She nodded and sat back. “Now, there’s supposed to be a cold snap coming, so be a doll and go out back and get some firewood for me, would you?” “Yes, ma’am,” Zane said, bemused.
He pushed open the creaky screen door and stepped outside into the cool night, lit by a half moon and a ton of stars above him. He limped to the woodpile and looked up at the sky to let it sink in that Mara meant it when she’d said “my boys.” Including him. It was more than he had any right to hope for, but he realized that deep down, he’d wanted to come here for exactly that reason.

Teaser Tuesday #6

Buongiorno a tutti. Mi sono trovata leggermente in difficoltà col teaser di oggi perchè non trovavo nulla che redesse onore ai due libri che sto leggendo, quindi mi sono buttata sull’ultimo letto: Il Messaggero di Lois Lowry, ovvero il terzo libro della serie di The Giver. Devo ammettere che questi librini mi stanno piacendo un sacco e a breve leggerò anche l’ultimo della serie. Senza aggiungere altro, vi lascio al teaser.

Matty si voltò a guardare il Mentore, l’insegnante così importante per lui. Il Mentore stava riflettendo, Matty era abituato a vederlo immerso nei suoi pensieri, faceva parte del contegno che teneva in classe. Rifletteva sempre attentamente su ogni domanda, persino la più assurda da parte del più piccolo fra gli allievi.
Strano, pensò Matty. La voglia sulla guancia del Mentore sembrava essersi attenuata. Di solito era di un rosso intenso. Ora sembrava semplicemente rosa, come se stesse sbiadendo. Ma era tarda estate. Probabilmente, concluse Matty, la pelle del Mentore si era abbronzata col sole, come la sua, e questo faceva sì che la voglia risultasse meno visibile.
Eppure Matty era inquieto. Quel giorno c’era qualcos’altro di diverso nel Mentore. Non avrebbe saputo dire in cosa consistesse la differenza.

Capitolo 6 – IL MESSAGGERO di Lois Lowry

il messaggeroIn una realtà futura segnata da “forme di governo spietate, punizioni atroci, inguaribile povertà o falso benessere”, i difetti fisici sono puniti con la pena di morte. Ma nel Villaggio in cui Matty abita anche gli ultimi della scala sociale sono accolti e tenuti in grande considerazione. La comunità è gestita dal Capo, una versione adulta del Jonas di The Giver – Il Donatore. Matty lavora per il Veggente, un vecchio cieco che lo ha aiutato a maturare. Ma adesso qualcosa sta cambiando, i rifugiati improvvisamente non sono più i benvenuti al Villaggio e gli abitanti stanno diventando vanesi e ottusi. A Matty, uno dei pochi capaci di districarsi nella fitta Foresta che circonda il Villaggio, viene affidato il compito di portare il messaggio del drammatico cambiamento ai paesi vicini. Purtroppo la Foresta, animata ora da una forza oscura, si rivolta contro di lui e Matty
si trova a fronteggiare il pericolo armato solo di un nuovo potere, che ancora non riesce completamente a comprendere.
Un’allegoria spietata dell’animo umano e della nostra società, che conclude la trilogia profonda e provocatoria di Lois Lowry.

Ci sto prendendo gusto a pescare una pagina a caso dai libri per i Teaser. Mi diverto un sacco. L’estratto di oggi viene da un libro che ho letto la settimana scorsa in una serata.

At some point, they’d moved closer to each other on the bench, and she realized only now that their knees were touching. Between them, someone had carved the word MAYBE into the wood in uneven letters, and she wondered if Owen saw it, too. She closed her eyes for a moment and let the word expand in her head: maybe. Maybe it was the cold, or maybe it was the conversation, or maybe it was something else that had pulled them so close. But here they were, angled together like this, their faces suddenly too near, and she lowered her eyes, afraid to meet his gaze.
